How to use this calculator
Enter your number of nights and travelers, then pick a hostel style: dorm bed (priced per person per night) or private room (priced per room). Add the hostel's locker or deposit fee, the hotel's nightly rate and tax percentage, and whether each option includes breakfast — if not, the breakfast cost you enter is added automatically.

How it works
The calculator adds up the full stay cost for each option, then divides by the number of travelers for the per-person cost.
Hostel (dorm): dorm rate × nights × travelers, plus the locker/deposit fee, plus breakfast cost × nights × travelers if breakfast is not included.
Hostel (private room): private-room rate × nights × rooms needed, plus the same extras. Rooms needed assumes double occupancy: ceil(travelers ÷ 2), so two travelers share one room and three travelers need two.
Hotel: hotel rate × nights × rooms needed, increased by the hotel tax percentage, plus breakfast cost × nights × travelers if breakfast is not included. Rooms needed uses the same double-occupancy assumption as the hostel private room.
The cheaper total wins. "You save" is simply the difference between the two totals. These are straightforward totals from the prices you enter — estimates only in the sense that your real bill can differ if rates, taxes, or fees change at checkout.
