How it works
The model is a simple all-in sum: total = fare + taxes & port fees + gratuities + extras. Then cost per night = total ÷ nights, and cost per person per night = cost per night ÷ travelers. For a cruise, each night aboard is a full day, so cost per person per day is the same figure.
Why this metric matters: cruise lines advertise the base fare only, which is almost never the price you pay. Per-person-per-day folds every mandatory and typical optional cost into one number, so you can fairly compare a $1,400 7-night cruise with a $1,600 9-night cruise, or a cruise against a land vacation.
