Sales Commission Calculator
Quick answer: Commission on $250,000 of quarterly sales at a flat 7% is $17,500 per quarter ($70,000 annualized). With a tiered plan of 5% on the first $100,000 plus 8% on the next $150,000, the same sales pay $5,000 + $12,000 = $17,000, an effective rate of 6.8%. Use the calculator below with your own sales, tiers, and period to see the payout and the annualized equivalent instantly.
Reps are paid on flat or tiered commission plans, and tiered plans are hard to work out by hand. This sales commission calculator handles both: enter the sales amount, choose flat or up to three tiers, and see the commission, the effective rate, and the annualized equivalent.

How to use this calculator
Enter the sales amount for the period and pick monthly, quarterly, or annual. Choose a flat rate or enter up to three tiers โ each tier's "up to" is the cumulative sales level where that tier ends, and the rate applies only to the sales inside that tier.
How it works
Flat: commission = sales ร (rate รท 100). Tiered: commission = (tier 1 sales ร rate 1) + (tier 2 sales ร rate 2) + (tier 3 sales ร rate 3), where each tier's sales are only the slice of total sales that falls inside it. Effective rate = commission รท sales. Annualized = period commission ร 12 (monthly), ร 4 (quarterly), or ร 1 (annual).
Worked example
$250,000 of quarterly sales. Flat 7%: $250,000 ร 0.07 = $17,500 per quarter ($70,000 annualized). Tiered โ first $100,000 at 5% = $5,000; next $150,000 at 8% = $12,000; total = $17,000 (effective rate $17,000 รท $250,000 = 6.8%), $68,000 annualized.
Reference data
This calculator is pure arithmetic โ no external data. The formulas used: commission = sum of (tier slice ร tier rate); effective rate = commission รท sales; annualized = monthly ร 12, quarterly ร 4, annual ร 1. Sales above the highest tier threshold earn the last tier's rate.
Method & sources
Tiered commission is computed exactly like marginal tax brackets: each rate applies only to the portion of sales inside its band, and the bands are cumulative thresholds. Results are labeled estimates because real plans include draws, clawbacks, and caps that this tool does not model.

Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate sales commission?
Flat commission is simply sales times the rate: $250,000 at 7% pays $17,500. Tiered commission splits sales into bands and applies each band's rate only to the sales inside it, then adds the bands together.
What is a tiered commission structure?
Sales are divided into thresholds, and each slice earns a different rate - for example 5% on the first $100,000 and 8% on the next $150,000. Only the sales inside each band get that band's rate, which rewards higher totals.
What is the effective commission rate?
Total commission divided by total sales. In the tiered example - $5,000 plus $12,000 on $250,000 of sales - the effective rate is $17,000 divided by $250,000, or 6.8%.
How do I annualize monthly or quarterly commission?
Multiply the period payout by the number of periods in a year: monthly by 12, quarterly by 4. This calculator shows both the period payout and the annualized figure.
What happens to sales above the last tier?
Sales above the highest tier threshold earn that tier's rate. Leave the last tier's 'up to' box empty to make it open-ended.
