How to use this calculator
Pick a direction first: Hourly → Salary tells you what an hourly wage is worth per year, month, week, and day. Salary → Hourly turns an annual salary into an effective hourly rate — handy for comparing job offers or pricing freelance work.
For hourly mode, enter your wage, your regular hours per week, and any overtime hours at 1.5× or 2×. Results update instantly as you type. Tick "Estimate federal income tax" if you want a rough idea of federal tax and take-home pay.
How it works
The basic conversion rests on the 2,080-hour work year: 40 hours a week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. So a $20/hour wage equals $20 × 2,080 = $41,600 per year, and a $50,000 salary equals $50,000 ÷ 2,080 ≈ $24.04 per hour.
When overtime is involved, weekly pay is calculated as: wage × the first 40 hours, plus wage × overtime multiplier × every hour above 40. The annual figure is that weekly total × 52. Monthly pay is annual ÷ 12, biweekly is annual ÷ 26, weekly is annual ÷ 52, and daily is weekly ÷ 5 — assuming a standard 5-day work week, and 52 paid weeks with no unpaid time off.
The optional tax figure subtracts the $15,000 standard deduction from your annual pay, then applies the 2025 single-filer federal income tax brackets (10% up to $11,925; 12% up to $48,475; 22% up to $103,350; 24% up to $197,300; 32% up to $250,525; 35% up to $626,350; 37% above). It is only a rough estimate — not tax advice — and excludes state tax, FICA (Social Security and Medicare), and deductions like 401(k) contributions.
Frequently asked questions
$20 an hour is how much a year?
$20 an hour is $41,600 a year before taxes and deductions, based on a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week for 52 weeks ($20 × 2,080 hours). If you work overtime or take unpaid time off, your actual figure will differ.
How do you convert an annual salary to hourly?
Divide your annual salary by 2,080, the number of hours in a full-time work year (40 hours × 52 weeks). For example, $50,000 ÷ 2,080 ≈ $24.04 per hour. If you work a different schedule, divide by your actual yearly hours instead.
Does this include overtime?
Yes. Enter your overtime hours per week and choose the overtime multiplier (1.5× for time-and-a-half or 2× for double time). All hours above 40 per week are paid at the overtime rate, and your annual figure is built from that weekly total.
How accurate is the tax estimate?
It's only a rough estimate. It applies the 2025 single-filer federal income tax brackets to your pay minus the $15,000 standard deduction. It excludes state taxes, FICA, and other deductions, so treat it as a ballpark figure — not tax advice.
Does it include state taxes?
No. The optional tax figure covers federal income tax only. It excludes state and local taxes, FICA (Social Security and Medicare), and pre-tax deductions such as 401(k) contributions or health insurance premiums.
