How to use this calculator
Choose a mode at the top. Days between counts the business days in a date span — pick a start date and an end date. Add business days finds the date you land on after adding a number of business days to a start date, which is handy for project deadlines, delivery estimates, and SLA countdowns. Results update the moment you change any input, and the Calculate button re-runs the count at any time.
The Exclude US federal holidays toggle is on by default and removes the 11 federal holidays of 2026 from the count. Turn it off if you only want weekends skipped — for example, when your company observes a different holiday calendar.
Counting runs from the start date inclusive to the end date exclusive: the start date counts if it is a business day, but the end date never does. So a span from Monday to the following Monday counts 5 business days.
How it works
Every date you enter is parsed as a UTC midnight timestamp from the year, month, and day in the YYYY-MM-DD input — the same instant in time regardless of your device's time zone. A day is a business day when it falls on Monday–Friday and, with the holiday toggle on, is not in the built-in 2026 US federal holiday list.
In Days between mode, the calculator walks from the start date up to (but not including) the end date, tallying business days, skipped weekend days, and skipped holidays separately. In Add business days mode, it steps forward one day at a time from the start date, counting only business days, and stops on the Nth one — that date is your result. The start date itself is never counted in this mode.
The built-in holiday list covers US federal holidays for 2026 only, so dates in other years are counted as plain weekdays and weekends. All math runs in your browser — nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Does the count include the start and end dates?
The count runs from the start date (inclusive) to the end date (exclusive) — the start date counts if it is a business day, but the end date never does. For example, Monday, September 21 to Monday, September 28 counts as 5 business days: Monday through Friday of that week. This matches the convention used by most payroll and deadline calculations.
What counts as a business day?
A business day is any Monday through Friday that is not a US federal holiday (when the holiday toggle is on). Saturdays and Sundays are never business days. The built-in holiday list covers 2026, so dates in other years are counted as plain weekdays and weekends.
How does "Add business days" work?
Enter a start date and a number of business days N, and the calculator steps forward one day at a time, counting only business days, until it reaches the Nth one — that date is your result. The start date itself is not counted. For example, adding 1 business day to Friday, September 25 gives Monday, September 28, because the weekend is skipped.
Which US federal holidays are excluded?
The built-in list is the 11 US federal holidays of 2026: January 1 (New Year's Day), January 19 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), February 16 (Presidents' Day), May 25 (Memorial Day), June 19 (Juneteenth), July 3 (Independence Day, observed — July 4 falls on a Saturday), September 7 (Labor Day), October 12 (Columbus Day), November 11 (Veterans Day), November 26 (Thanksgiving), and December 25 (Christmas). Turn the toggle off to treat holidays as ordinary business days.
